5 years ago, I made the decision to quit my full-time job to follow my dreams. I was not in the financial position to make that decision, and to be honest, I wasn’t sure where I wanted to go… I just knew I couldn’t stay where I was. I quit a full-time job with full union 32BJ benefits for my entire family to go on a one-month dance tour paying monthly what I made every week at work. Quitting wasn’t easy at all, and almost every single person in my life told me it was a dumb decision to quit a job to dance for a living… almost everyone advised me to stay at work and dance on my days off… but I knew that wasn’t good enough for me…. I almost cried trying to figure out what the right decision would be… to make consistent money that I could retire from, or to go against my loved ones advice and go broke for a living…. Inside, I knew that I would rather look back 50 years from now saying that “I tried something crazy when I was young and it didn’t work”, than “I wanted to follow my dreams when I was younger, but now I’ll never know if it would have worked out or not.” So… I quit, with not a dollar saved.
This is just a brief peek into the story on how I went from full-time employment, to unemployment, to completely broke, to becoming one of the world’s top dance instructors… all within 5 years. I hope my story can inspire somebody today to do what they love, just once in their life.
